ETown is a visionary city of tomorrow. It is a thoughtful response to the grand challenge of substituting information and human knowledge for energy and matter. With looming peak oil, growing environmental concerns, and a rapidly urbanizing world, the conception, creation, and operation of ETown would epitomize transition to a new era of clean energy and sustainable development.
An Energy Rich Region (ERR) can be thought of as a type of homogeneous natural resource region located geographically in an administratively defined area containing large endowments of energy reserves. Typically, when referring to ERRs, we are looking at the exhaustible energy resources such as oil, natural gas, and coal. ERRs have diverse climates and are located across the globe.
The innovative methodology draws heavily on the powerful data generation, data handling, and spatial analytical modeling of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS) to estimate and evaluate regional wealth (capital stock). This wealth estimation will be used within a general framework for understanding and planning for sustainable development in energy rich regions (ERRs).
